The Eight House School of Feng Shui
Introduction
The Eight House
School of Feng Shui is one of the many popular schools of feng shui practised by many geomancers. Under this school, a house is classified as East House or West House and a person is classified as East Person or West Person.Determining whether a house is East or West House
To determine whether a house belongs to East or West House, look at the sitting direction of the house. The sitting direction of a house is the direction directly opposite to the facing direction. If a house sits at one of the directions in Northeast, Southwest, West or Northwest, then the house is a West House. Otherwise, it is a East House. It uses a person or house's kua number to determine whether a house or person belongs to the East Group or West Group.
Determining whether a person is East or West House
For a person, the kua number is determined by the year of birth. It is calculated differently for males and females. For a male, the formula used is (100- last two digit of year of birth)/9. The remainder is the Kua Number. For example, a man born in 1972 will have kua number 1 : Remainder of (100-72)/9 or 28/9 is 1 For a female, this formula is (last two digit of year of birth - 4)/9. The remainder is the Kua number. For example, a woman born in 1970 will have Kua number 3 : Remainder of (70 - 4)/9 or 66/9 is 3. The above methods can only be used for people who are born before year 2000.
How to Use the Eight House School of Feng Shui
Once you know whether a house or person belongs to the East or West Group, the next step is to find out the auspicious and inauspicious directions. For a East House, the auspicious sectors are East, Southeast, North and South. For a West House, the auspicious sectors are West, Northeast, Northwest and Southeast.
Thus it can be seen that the auspicious directions of a East House is exactly opposite to that of a West House. Also, the auspicious directions of a East House is the inauspicious directions of West House.
After you find out the auspicious directions of a house, you may arrange the furniture of a house to tap into the auspicious sectors. Under this school, bedrooms, front doors, altars are best placed in auspicious sectors whileas storerooms, toilets and ovens should be placed in inauspicious sectors. Similarly, a West Group person should have his bedroom and main door located in auspicious sectors (West, Northwest, Southwest, Northeast) and toilet and storeroom located in inauspicious sectors (East, Southeast, North, South) Under this school, a East Group person should live in a East House.
Likewise, a West Group should live in a West House. This is because the auspicious directions of a East Group person is the same as that of a East House. If a East Group Person is living in a West House, then his auspicious directions will be opposite to that of the house he is living.
He will be faced with the dilemma of choosing his auspicious directions or his house's auspicious directions. Faced with such an unfortunate situation, he should choose his person auspicious directions over his house's auspicious directions. This is because under this school, a person's auspicious direction is more powerful than that of a house.
